RMIT is a major sponsor of the Melbourne Writers Festival.
To expand awareness of RMIT's diverse range of creative writing programs and our enthusiasm to push the boundaries of writing and technology during the festival, I created Mobile Textualism.
Mobile Textualism is an anthology of Mobile poetry written by RMIT students and the general public. This was a part of the Melbourne Writers Festival, and had the unique interactive element of allowing the audience read and forward the poems on their mobile phones.
Poems were sent out through twitter at RMIT_Poetry, and by two bluetooth content pushers at Federation Square and Capitol Theatre. These content pushers were built and programmed by CSIT students, making this a university-wide project.
Poems had to be 140 characters or less, including spaces.
More than 400 people follow the poems through twitter, more than 300 entries were sent in from around the world, and we received media coverage in MX, The Age newspaper, ABC774 radio and on various blogs.
